Why Study Accounting
The field of accounting is a leading professional discipline that provides diverse services to individuals, business entities, and governments at all levels.
The accounting program is designed to develop student skills in auditing, taxation, accounting information systems, computer operations, forensic accounting, cost accounting, and many other areas. Career path possibilities include: Accountant, Auditor, Tax Advisory Services, Credit Analyst, Loan Officer, and Management Advisory Services. Students who successfully complete the program will have the opportunity to take a few more courses in accounting and finance (after graduation) in order to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam, if desired.
Students learn to apply their skills in auditing, taxation, management policy, information
systems, computer operations, and many other areas. Faculty-led experiential and service-learning
opportunities provide student access to real-world experience that provides a foundation
for a successful career in accounting. The College of Business provides funding and
scholarship opportunities for students to participate in
community events, conferences, and networking functions Direct access to the College
of Business Career Readiness Coach to help aide in advising, career preparation, and
job search.
Faculty in this degree program have a PhD or a DBA in accounting, and routinely publish their research in some of the top accounting academic journals. In addition, many act as consultants within the field bringing decades of real-world experience.
